About the Role


This is a broad role that is responsible for providing compliance oversight, leadership and advisory support across Wood Mackenzie's global business activities, resources and employees.

You'll ensure that the business has a strong governance and controls framework and conduct-focused culture, maintaining a pragmatic balance between risk, compliance, commerciality and customer outcomes.


This is a unique role in which you will have the opportunity to engage with C-suite executives, influence strategy and gain exposure to all aspects - commercial, operational and financial - of Wood Mackenzie's business.

However, there will be times when you will be in the detail, providing essential support and input to a diverse range of stakeholders and business challenges / opportunities.


To support this diverse remit, you'll lead an experienced team of 5 colleagues that includes 3 direct reports; Privacy, General Compliance and Compliance Operations professionals.


Main Responsibilities

  • Implementation and maintenance of the strategic risk management framework
  • Planning, designing and delivering riskbased compliance activities through the effective and efficient allocation and management of resource.
  • Leading and inspiring a small team of compliance professionals, focussing on personal accountability for development and the delivery of commercially aware and timely compliance activities.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships to support the design, development and delivery of highquality compliance monitoring activities, including the effective prioritisation of workloads to ensure the timely delivery of highquality outputs.
  • Promoting a culture of openness, and knowledge sharing across the organisation.
  • Taking a proactive and riskbased lead in the update and development of departmental operating policies and procedures to drive improvements whilst delivering sustainable commercial objectives.
  • Provide critical advisory services to key stakeholders to ensure the compliant delivery of new and existing products, systems and processes
  • Take lead on ('reimagine') the implementation of an effective, oversight, monitoring and enterprise training programme
  • To personally manage and where appropriate carry out high profile/sensitive investigations
  • Lead the Risk Management & Compliance Annual Planning Process, and periodic policy review /refresh.
  • Undertake ad hoc independent reviews at the request of senior management and the Global Executive.
  • A strong understanding of risk management and assurance
  • Demonstrable experience with risk management frameworks, especially in respect to operational risk management, and governance
  • A pragmatic and proportionate approach to compliance and risk management
  • Experience leading a small team, building capability within that team and positioning the function as being a trusted and valued advisor to the business.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Commercial awareness and customer focus
  • Excellent understanding of the 3 Lines of Defence model and how it should be deployed
