An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Main Outpatient department at Southend Hospital, to provide an effective reception service across various departments, including ENT, Urology and Main Outpatients.


We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills who is dedicated to working as part of our friendly team.

Compassionate in nature, the successful applicant will be required to have a flexible attitude to work and provide cross cover during periods of absence.

This, on occasion, may entail travelling to our outpatient sites at the Tyrells Health Wing Benfleet and Canvey Outpatients.


We may be able to offer an extra day from next spring making this a 3 day per week flexible contract.

Opening of the reception areas each morning and ensuring a safe environment for patients within the waiting areas throughout the day.

Being the first point of contact for patients, visitors and members of the public.

Dealing with all telephone enquiries of fielding calls to appropriate personnel.


Communicating with patients and/or carers in a timely and appropriate manner in relation to bookings, cancellations and changes to appointments.

Preparation of clinic lists and notes and general administration duties as required.

Using hospital systems to book patients into clinics and record their outcomes once they have been seen. (training will be given)

Pick up any missing outcomes from the clinics, adding them to Medway, as required and chasing these where necessary.

Booking follow-up appointments into the correct clinics within the appropriate time frame.


Closing the reception desk at the end of the day, locking away any confidential information and ensuring the waiting area is left tidy.

To work alongside fellow team members and provide help and support at all times.


Relay information in a sensitive manner between patients, family members and medical staff, whilst also taking patient confidentiality into account.

Maintaining personal development via internal performance reviews, attend in-house training and maintain all statutory and mandatory training as required.
