  • An opportunity has arisen to join our Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology Team based at Brampton, Cambridgeshire as a Fisheries Technical Specialist.
Our team covers the river Great Ouse catchment based at Brampton.

As the successful applicant you will provide expert advice around all aspects of coarse fish and eel management and legislation, and incident response.

You will show leadership and confidence when building and maintaining productive relationships with both our external partners and customers, as well as our internal colleagues across the business.

A proven record of coaching others is essential to ensure technical resilience is maintained and built upon within the team.

You will act as a link between our area team and FBG teams across the organisation, sharing relevant information, guidance and good practice.

You will provide support to the team around contentious, high-risk or technical consultations.

You will have an overview of our input into area-wide programmes of work such as the Flood and Coastal Risk Management revenue and capital programmes, and the Fisheries Improvement Programme.

Your base location will be our Environment Agency office in Brampton, Cambridgeshire.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.


  • The team
  • We cover the river Great Ouse catchment from Brackley in Buckinghamshire to The Wash in Norfolk. The area encompasses the unique Fenland landscape with numerous nationally and internationally important wildlife sites.

You will bring your expertise to a friendly, vibrant team of environmental professionals; your skills will complement our current fisheries, biodiversity and geomorphology expertise.

Experience/skills required-You will:
  • demonstrate capable and strategic engagement with relevant individuals, groups and organisations to make tangible environmental improvements across the area.
- have experience in responding to fisheries incidents, fisheries communication and have a good working knowledge of eel passage and relevant eel legislation
- be able to remain positive and focused, even when there are conflicting demands.
- be innovative to find efficiencies and work well with the team to embed any changes.

You should have strong technical leadership qualities to coach/mentor others to improve their capabilities.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
