Description
To assist the Portering team leader providing a customer focused service.

To deliver an efficient and effective portering service to patients, visitors, and all wards / departments.


To ensure the patient environment is maintained to a high standard and safe working practices adhere to in all aspects of environmental/ hygiene management.


  • The collection of refuse including clinical, domestic, confidential, special, and recycled waste from wards and departments as required
  • Follow waste disposal policy to ensure safe removal of waste ensuring correct segregation of waste
  • The collection of refuse including clinical, domestic confidential special and recyclable waste from wards and departments as
  • Follow Waste Disposal Policy to ensure safe removal of waste ensuring correct segregation of waste.
  • Safe patient movement (including unescorted xray and ECG patients)
  • The collection of soiled linen, following the segregation policy
  • The distribution of clean Delivery of meals, stores, and provisions to wards.
  • Movement of furniture and equipment in wards and offices when required
  • Assist in the commissioning/ decommissioning of new areas
  • To collect and transport bloods and specimens to the laboratory. Transport blood to and from pathology and theatre
  • To transport items including gases to Drs clinics/surgeries and patient addresses.
  • Maintain site cleanliness, brushing all hospital entrances to ensure high standards.
  • You will need to be flexible and capable of working effectively within the busy environment of the trust portering team.
  • Liaison and working with other colleagues within the Facilities and Commercial Services Department and other service users.
