Highfields College is seeking to appoint a Specialist Mentor in our Emotional Well Being Team to work in the Family and Student Support Team (FASST).

Highfields College is a Pupil Referral Unit for Y7 to Y11 students who have been excluded from mainstream schools.

Many of the students are expected to stay at Highfields for two/three terms, then return to a mainstream school or transfer to a specialist provision.

Our aim is to re-engage students in education, enabling them to return to school or to move on to successful post 16 placements.

Often the education packages are personalised to suit individual needs and include a variety of other interventions as part of a full wrap around service.

The successful applicant will champion emotional well-being / mental health across the school. Work day-to-day as a pastoral mentor, undertaking assessment and intervention to raise student emotional well-being over time.

Act as a visible mentor / interface with students, building positive working relationships with a focus on students in crisis.

Work in partnership with agencies who can bring specialisms and expertise to the school community in relation to emotional well-being - working in particular through the Team Around The Child / Team Around the Family / EHA/ Process/ Child Protection.

The successful applicant will also be able to manage a caseload of students in terms of their welfare, care and education both independently and confidently.

Commit to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people appropriately, confidentially and ensuring that, wherever necessary, students are aware of the limits of confidentiality in the school setting.

Take a commitment to undertake additional duties and commit to undertake professional development.

Retain files securely and accurately and regularly reporting on types of issues encountered in order to inform pastoral support and planning.

Support the Director of Care and Personal Development in driving the vision of the FASST team forward.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
