Caseworker - Year 11 Post 16 Transition

Grade H, Full Time, Permanent

About the role


Gateshead Virtual School is changing, we have an exciting new structure, and we would like you to be part of this team.

Do you have experience of working with children in care, care leavers or care experienced children and young people? Do you have knowledge of child development including attachment and trauma and the impact of adverse childhood experiences?


This is a key area of work for children in our care who will need support to make a successful transition from year 11 to Post 16 ensuring they access and sustain education, training, or employment during year 12 and 13 and achieve the best possible outcomes and make good progress.


You will be responsible for managing a caseload of children in our care in transition from year 11 to Post 16 including SEND alongside the child/young person's allocated social worker and designated teacher ensuring their full inclusion within education, training, or employment.

You will be the first point of contact and support for carers, social care and school/provider staff on key issues including admissions, transitions, attendance, emotional health and well-being, suspensions and exclusions and special educational needs.


You will also monitor and evaluate the compliance and quality of Personal Education Plans with regard to how they effectively meet the needs of the child in ensuring positive progress and outcomes and produce appropriate reports where relevant, these will be aligned to any SEND plan, Education, Health and Care Plan and Pathway Plans.

The post is based at the Civic Centre, Gateshead but will involve extensive work with schools and other providers.

After an initial induction period, the post will operate on a hybrid basis, offering some opportunity for home working.
