Purpose of the role:
To underwrite and develop the syndicate's global International Professional Indemnity (PI) portfolio in accordance with the Syndicate's Business Plan, class strategy, Underwriting Guidelines and personal underwriting authorities as well as support the Class Underwriter when required.
Duties and accountabilities:
- Underwrite the International PI account on behalf of the Syndicate diligently, thoughtfully, and responsibly and in accordance with personal underwriting authorities and the Syndicate's underwriting procedures, referring risks to the Class Underwriter, Head of Department or Active Underwriter when or if required
- Assist in delivering the required business mix, planned premium income and ULRs as agreed within the syndicate business plan (SBF)
- Aid the Class Underwriter in formulating the account business plan with the Head of Department and Active Underwriter
- Monitor binders, facilities and lineslips for declarations, premium income and aggregates, including the undertaking of referrals and reviews when applicable
- Be able to prepare data for the Consortium and Outwards Reinsurance and prepare indepth analysis of binding authorities when required
- Establish, maintain and service strong client and producer relationships, ensuring that the service provided to brokers, coverholders and policyholders is of the highest standard
- Review and underwriting of new & renewal risks using technical rating model
- Undertake business travel when appropriate to cultivate and maintain business relationships
- Assist in the management and development of Assistant Underwriters and/or Underwriting Assistants
- Complete other duties as directed, including project work and the development of new products
Skills, knowledge and experience:
- A thorough working knowledge and sufficient experience of the International Professional Indemnity (PI) market, including detailed comprehension of policy wordings, coverages, premium rates and risk factors
- A proactive and entrepreneurial approach
- Strong technical knowledge & analytical skills across traditional PI lines
- Excellent negotiation and decisionmaking skills
- The ability to work collegiately as part of a team, as well as individually when required
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, plus an ability to forge and maintain longterm relationships with key stakeholders
- Strong organisational and planning skills, including the ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
