Loading Operative
Job Purpose
To work as part of the Production Team responsible for carrying out operational duties associated with the packaging, loading & unloading of product.
The prime tasks for the role are loading and unloading product onto a variety of different vehicles andpreparing orders for loading.
A large proportion of the time is working outside. We require someone with a current FLT licence and experience of working with non-standard size packs of products.
Core Activities
- Work under the guidance of the Production Management Team to achieve loading schedules, production targets & KPI's.
- Work under the guidance of the Production Management Team to maximise customer/contractor experience of working on site
- Operate trucks/machinery/equipment/tools in accordance with Standard Operating procedures where appropriate.
- Perform all duties in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures for specific tasks & products as appropriate.
- Perform all duties in accordance with business quality, environmental, health & safety, compliance & sustainability performance policies & procedures.
- Ensure that all loads are ready & available to load at least one day before load is scheduled for collection.
- Ensure that any special load/transport requirements have been satisfied with vehicle provided by third party contractors before loading.
- Operate trucks/machinery/equipment/tools in accordance with business quality, environmental, health & safety, compliance & sustainability performance policies & procedures.
- Monitor truck/machine/equipment/tooling performance & escalate any product quality, health & safety, environmental & compliance issue to Production Management Team.
- Advise & report any truck/machine/equipment/tooling performance issues to site Engineering Team utilizing appropriate software systems & processes.
- Work with other site personnel as appropriate, to resolve loading issues.
- Establish, maintain & contribute toward effective working relationships with visiting customer & third party transport contractor drivers.
- Support site training and development programme.
- Support site personnel in the pursuit of business development and improvement
- Follow site yard/machine/equipment/tools housekeeping requirements & procedures.
- To assist with activities beyond the normal role as required.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- Good communication skills (verbal & written)
- Experience of working shifts
- Previous experience of working in metals loading/unloading
- Previous forklift truck driving experience and current valid licence
- Ability to work on own or as part of team
- Proactive approach to meeting demanding loading/transport deadlines
- Proactive approach to health & safety
- Proactive approach to housekeeping
Desirable
- Previous experience of working in warehouse/transport environment.
- Previous experience of stock control.
- PC/IT literate.
