BBSRC International stimulates collaborations in science and technology to advance the UK's global reputation and influence. This is done through engaging and investing in key strategic bilateral and multilateral international partnerships to strengthenbioscience research and innovation, working with both research-intensive and low
- and middle-income countries.


JOB PURPOSE


BBSRC is currently seeking to recruit a Portfolio Manager-International to join our European and Global Partnerships hub within the International team to manage and develop the portfolio of activities with priority and emerging countries mainly in NorthAmerica and the Indo-Pacific.


key responsibilities will be to:

  • Support the development, delivery and management of international investments, engaging with teams across BBSRC.
  • Work closely with Senior Portfolio Managers
  • International, to provide support in development BBSRC's partnerships in North America and the Indo-Pacific.
  • Maintain and develop a database of BBSRC's international portfolio.
  • Engage across BBSRC to update the evidence base underpinning BBSRC's international collaborations, including partnering profiles with different countries, types of collaboration mechanisms, key partners and scientific topics.
  • Liaise with colleagues across BBSRC and UKRI to develop international collaboration success stories and case studies based on BBSRCfunded international work.
  • Use a range of analytical tools, including bibliometrics to better understand bioscience research & innovation strengths overseas and how these may translate to opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
  • Prepare briefing materials for senior leaders in BBSRC and across UKRI in light of senior leadership meetings with international stakeholders, overseas visits and missions.
  • Provide support in organisation and minute taking of meetings with key stakeholders, developing meeting agendas, organising workshops and other scoping partnering activities.
  • Deputise for other members of the International team at meetings as required.
  • Support organisation of overseas missions or reception of incoming delegations as necessary.

Person Specification

Essential:


  • Understanding of the current UK research, innovation landscape, including how bioscience research contributes to the delivery of wider benefit and impact.
  • Understanding and an interest in the aims and objectives of BBSRC and the purpose of international collaborations in bioscience.
  • Strong analytical skills, with ability to understand complex ideas and data, identifying, connecting and synthesising relevant information and summarising effectively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to produce wellstructured and clearly articulated documents and presentations drawing from multiple sources of evidence.
  • Effective team player with good organisational skills, able to plan and prioritise own work areas, while contributing to wider team activities and priorities as required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with ability to build good working relationships with people at all levels, across the organisation and more widely and to represent the organisation in a professional manner with partners and other organisations.
  • Willingness to travel in the UK, Europe and other countries and be away from home for short periods (following current government guidelines).
