Purpose of the role:


Portfolio Managers within the Business Interaction Unit play a key role in contributing to, and maintaining, BBSRC's flexible, strategic approach to the development and implementation of current and future investments in academic-industry collaborative researchand development.


This role will support BBSRC's strategic engagement with businesses so they can effectively access, influence, engage and collaborate with the UK bioscience research and skills base, to deliver social and economic benefit for the UK and globally.

This portfolioof activity will provide the post-holders with an unrivalled, exciting opportunity to gain experience and insight into cutting edge bioscience research, innovation, policy and strategy.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide support for the planning, evidencing and development of new collaborative research investments between academic researchers and biotechnology businesses.
  • Support, and where necessary lead, the management of initiatives and activities to encourage collaboration between academic and industrial researchers, across the breadth of UK bioscience.
  • Support Senior Portfolio Managers in strategic engagement with bioscience and biotechnology businesses across the UK.
  • Develop and maintain a connection with researchers and innovators in academia and business; and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and information between them and BBSRC as part of developing future strategy.
  • Enable the Business Interaction Unit to be an agile, highperforming team by supporting priority activities that contribute to the broader objectives of the Domain as necessary.

Shortlisting & Interview Criteria

  • Selfmotivated and able to take a positive approach to identify and solve problems, with a proven ability to take accountability and proactively deliver objectives through planning, prioritising and delivering with minimum supervision.
  • A proven ability to work with ambiguity and deal with difficult situations by showing initiative and judgement in a constantly changing environment.
  • Significant experience in analysing complex information and synthesising wellstructured, clearly articulated complex documents.
  • Evidence of effective teamwork, with willingness to work on both individual and shared objectives and contribute to an open, supportive culture.
