Top-up to Registered Nurse - for Registered Nursing Associates or Assistant Practitioners

The apprenticeship will start in early September 2024.

The top-up is a 24-month education program, working towards becoming a Registered Nurse with a BSc Honours degree. The course combines work-based and academic learning between WVT and the University of Worcester. This apprenticeship position will be paid at a Band 4 for the duration.

This opportunity is suitable for Assistant Practitioners, Nursing Associates or equivalent qualifications employed in Wye Valley NHS Trust who meet the following requirements:
Have English and Maths GCSE C/4 or above, or English and Maths Level 2 Functional Skills, and can provide evidence in the form of a certificate
Have a Level 3 qualification, 112 UCAS points from 3 A Levels or equivalent and can provide evidence in the form of a certificate
Hold the values and behaviours required for the Registered Nurse or Nursing Associate Apprenticeship
Must be contracted for a minimum of 30 hours per week
Have lived in England for a minimum of the last 3 years
Have written support from your current line manager


The Nursing Associate to Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship is a two-year top-up education programme, working towards becoming a Registered Nurse with a BSc Hons degree.

The apprenticeship combines work-based and academic learning between The Employer/Trust and a Higher Education Institute (HEI) approved to deliver Nursing and Midwifery Council approved programmes, and is also a Registered Apprenticeship Training Provider.

As a Registered Nurse Degree Apprentice you will be based, as a paid employee, within Wye Valley NHS Trust.

Whilst you will be allocated to one specific area, you will experience working across both internal and external placements to gain an appreciation of the different areas of local healthcare service and meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements.


You will be required to achieve the practical and academic standards as set out by the NMC, The University of Worcester, and the Institute of Apprenticeships.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship you will be able to join the NMC Register as a Registered Nurse.
