    Home treatment teams provide seven days a week cover intending to prevent inpatient admission or support on earlier discharge. Staff within our HTTs help manage a defined caseload, focusing on providing expert assessment and treatment for people with complex mental health difficulties.

    We also support providing information and signposting to family and carers. Our team supports a wide range of statutory and non-statutory agencies and is central to this role.

    We are looking for a motivated, recovery-focused, experienced band 6 Occupational Therapist to be part of an ever-evolving MDT within our Exeter and East and Mid Home Treatment Teams. The role will primarily be working with the HTTs and further opportunities to work with the broader inpatient and community teams. Main duties of the job This is an exciting opportunity for the development of the Occupational Therapy profession. Occupational therapists within the HTT will utilise core Occupational Therapy skills to provide holistic biopsychosocial assessment and treatment interventions concerning the client's self-care, productivity and leisure, impacting an individual's mental health. The post holder will contribute to the clinical leadership of the team and participate in team and service development and evaluation. Person Specification Experience Essential
    • Post registration experience working at band 5 in mental health care working in inpatient and community settings
    • Evidence of acting as clinician in charge on a regular basis
    • Substantial experience of managing/leading a busy caseload of clients with a range of mental health conditions within a community setting and without supervision
    • Working within a community mental health setting in either the statutory or voluntary sector.
    • Experience of clinically supervising junior and unqualified staff and mentoring students
    • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment.
    • Participation in user involvement in services.
    Desirable
    • Experience in deputising for more senior staff
    • Evidence of following through specific pieces of work or projects as delegated by ward managers or others
    Knowledge Essential
    • An understanding of the NSF and Mental Health Act/ Mental Health Capacity Act requirements.
    • CPA Process
    Desirable
    • Awareness of community structures and social care management responsibilities
    • Understanding of recovery principles in Mental Health
    Qualifications Essential
    • A professional qualification in OT, on the appropriate professional body register and hold current registration with no restrictions.
    • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development
    • Mentoring students in line with professional requirements
    • A recognised relevant qualification in Occupational Therapy
    Desirable
    • Post graduate qualification relevant to specialism
    • Clinical Supervision qualification
    • Training to level 3 in Safeguarding children and young people: roles and competencies for Health Care staff
    • Evidence of leadership/management training within a core service
    Skills and Abilities Essential
    • Excellent communication skills including the ability to engage with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health problems.
    • Ability to think and work independently/autonomously and with complex case load.
    • Ability to manage risk.
    • Able to plan creatively to maximise effectiveness of care plans.
    • Ability to be mobile across a geographical area.
