Job summary
The Medical Engineering department is looking to recruit self-motivated Apprentice Medical Engineering Technicians to join the busy and enthusiastic Medical Engineering team in maintaining and repairing specialist equipment used to diagnose, treat and support patient care.
The apprentice will attend Middlesbrough College to study for the technical knowledge aspect of the level 3 apprenticeship and relevant academic qualification on day release. Practical basic skills training will be completed in the first year as a block release for approximately 10 months.
Once this has been achieved, the apprentice will then commence training towards their End Point Assessment for their full Apprenticeship Standard, which will take place within the Medical Engineering Department at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
The apprenticeship will potentially commence during the week commencing 2nd September 2024 subject to all necessary employment checks being carried out, including a colour vision test. Qualifications acceptable on entry are a minimum of GCSE at Grade B / 5 in Mathematics and Grade C / 4, or equivalent, in at least 4 other subjects to include a science based subject.
Main duties of the job
The applicant must be able to communicate with staff, patients, public, college tutors, trainers and assessors of all levels.
Good IT skills are required to maintain the department's asset management database for maintenance records of work performed.
Complete training logbooks and matrix following the completion of work carried out in the employer location(s).
Submit all necessary paperwork to the Northern & Yorkshire NHS Assessment Centre in accordance with the apprenticeship and Standard requirements.
Follow the Trust's hospital infection prevention and control (HIC) policies and procedures to protect patients, staff and visitors from healthcare associated infections and ensure that the correct hand hygiene procedures (as described in HIC 14) are performed when entering and leaving clinical areas.
