Job Purpose

  • Lead the tutorial programme for students, ensuring they are all fully supported and challenged to reach their full potential.
  • Ensure that the daytoday welfare and support for students is available as and when needed

Role Specification

  • Assist students with the transition into SIRM
  • Assist in opendays and provide educational and career information, advice and guidance to students
  • Assist with student inductions, ensuring that SIRM policies and procedures are clearly communicated so that students' physical, emotional and educational needs are met
  • Act as an initial point of contact and support for students experiencing academic, personal, social or domestic difficulties making appropriate referrals to internal contacts or external agencies
  • Be responsible for taking, handling and answering routine student enquiries on a daytoday basis offering excellent customer service, information, advice and guidance as necessary
  • Develop a positive working relationship with students' particularly in respect of their conduct and behaviour
  • Be responsible for the daytoday confidential management of student support records
  • Assist with the organisation of student visits and award ceremonies
  • Assist with disciplinaries in accordance with the college's policies and procedures
  • Act as first point of contact for staff queries
  • Arrange appointments between students and staff
  • Arrange and deliver tutorial support sessions to students in partnership with faculty and compliance staff, in groups and 1:
  • Provide assistance/ extra support for students with disabilities and learning difficulties
  • Liaise with faculty and other staff for preparation of ILPs to monitor student progress, identify possible barriers to achievement and ensure appropriate intervention to help individual students to overcome any barriers to the effective learning
  • Assist faculty with academic management activities, including but not limited to coordinating the assessment procedures; coordinating and recording internal verification processes, assisting with the preparation for external verification / assessment boards
  • Work with Programme Lead and Operations & Compliance Manager to plan and implement appropriate interventions when concerns arise that could impact on achievement or progress
  • Support Programme Lead and Operations & Compliance Manager with preparation for and during visits from external agencies
  • Respond to internal enquiries relating to academic issues
  • Monitor assignment submission, including dealing with extension requests and extenuating circumstances
  • Maintain accurate student records with details of supervision, tutorials, disciplinaries, assessments, extension's, withdrawals
  • Using information systems produce reports as required for data returns, assessment boards, the annual monitoring process, for internal and external use
  • Take part in departmental meetings
  • Undertaking other tasks, as directed, to meet the needs of the business; working flexibly; and take personal responsibility for retaining and developing competence
