Job Introduction:

Carnsew Quarry (part of the Colas Ltd Group) is a quarrying business based near Falmouth, in Cornwall.

We now have a requirement for an experienced General Plant Operator to join the team, offering a competitive salary and employee benefits.


Main Responsibility:


The main element of the role is to drive quarry mobile plant, you will work in compliance with the requirements of the Quarry Regulations 1999, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974,statutory obligations, company instructions, Manager's Rules and safe working practices.

You'll also maintain excellent personal skills and manage daily health, safety, and environmental impacts to the highest standard.

  • Ensure the proper execution of production requirements with due regard to instructions and advice given by Quarry Management and specialists.
  • Operate plant and equipment in strict compliance with manufacturer's instructions in a safe and considerate manner with due regard to the workplace and the environment,
  • Perform daily checks on plant and machinery as required.
  • Completion of required paperwork in line with company requirements.
  • Assist maintenance staff when requested with the maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Undertake sentry duties during blasting activities as required.
  • Attend inductions / toolbox talks / all appropriate briefings


To succeed in this role, you'll need to demonstrate a strong work ethic, have good communication skills, be flexible and adaptable and be able to work as an effective part of the team.

Ideally, you'll have experience of working in the quarrying industry and have geotechnical awareness.
