About the Role


We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the Newcastle at a period of significant growth and transformation within the organization.


As a Data Scientist, you will be working within the Risk team who is responsible for the core loan loss provisioning models within the Society.

We have a stack of predictive models which, when combined with forward-looking economic forecasts, provide anestimate of expected credit losses.


In your day to day, you will:

  • Take a lead role in developing, managing and monitoring our PD, LGD and EAD risk models;
  • Support the creation of suitable macroeconomic scenarios;
  • Maintain model documentation and produce recommendation papers to governance committees;
  • Develop and maintain model performance monitoring and annual reviews;
  • Undertake independent analysis to ensure that existing model parameters remain robust and fit for purpose;
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Provide peer review and challenge to the Society's Tier 1 models in support of our model risk framework;
  • Support the development of junior analysts;
You will have plenty of opportunities to make an impact within the organisation by driving forward enhanced data-driven decisions.


About You
You will be a highly motivated individual and a critical thinker with a good dose of pragmatism.

You should possess skills in the following areas:

  • Experience in model development and sound documentation

The following skills are desirable:

  • Good knowledge of credit risk management
  • Knowledge of provisioning (e.g. IFRS, IRB)
  • Experience with survival/equity release models
