    An exciting new position has arisen for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join the team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHNFT). This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated Speech & Language Therapist to further develop their knowledge and skills in the management of patients with communication, swallowing, and/or voice difficulties, and head and neck cancer as part of our B6 rotation.

    The SLT team at BHNFT cover acute inpatient wards including medical and surgical wards, Acute Stroke Unit, and ICU, as well as some outpatient ENT and Oncology clinics. The position requires an individual that shows enthusiasm & proactive contribution to the teams expansion of SLT provision across BHNFT. As well as assisting in training other healthcare professionals in the hospital, BHNFT offer robust clinical supervision and support with further training opportunities. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication & interpersonal skills when working with patients and with the wider MDT consisting of Doctors, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists and Dietitians. Main duties of the job To apply sound clinical knowledge to the assessment, diagnosis and management of individuals with swallowing and/or communication difficulties, providing care that is high quality, person-centred and in line with the up-to-date evidence base. To provide support, education and advice to more junior SLTs, nursing and AHP colleagues in relation to inpatients with communication and swallowing difficulties and to ensure adequate access to the service is maintained for this client group. To follow and contribute to the development of departmental policies/guidelines and to participate in the development of innovations in service delivery, taking account of clinical governance.     • Degree in speech and language pathology or therapy or equivalent
    • Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist Certificate to Practice
    • Registration with Health Professions Council
    Desirable
    • Current member of RCSLT
    Experience Essential
    • Proven post graduate accredited (or equivalent) dysphagia training and experience
    • Proven relevant continuous professional development
    Knowledge and Awareness Essential
    • Proven post graduate SLT experience providing assessment, diagnosis and management to adults with swallowing and communication disorders
    • Proven awareness and experience of the requirement for excellence in clinical record keeping
    • Experience in working autonomously and as part of an interdisciplinary team
    • Experience in working in a Multidisciplinary team
    Desirable
    • Previous experience working on acute wards
    • Previous experience working with adults who have had a stroke
    • Previous experience coordinating the work of others
    • Previous experience with head and neck cancer and voice patients
