ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES


The key objective of this role is to lead development of the relevant quality check processes, procedures and capabilities for e-liquid products produced in the lab and pilot plant to drive continuous improvement in quality control and product safety for e-liquids, as part of BATs ambitions in the new technology development in vaping.

Responsibilities include quality control work activities and generation of test protocols and reports, using defined work practices or procedures. Development of new QC methods and procedures. Engaging with external research companies and test houses, review and production of reports summarising findings. Category specific product sourcing for analysis and understanding, sample management and tracking.


Tasks are achieved by thorough understanding of product quality product requirements, e-liquid chemistry, analytical science, and techniques relevant to the analysis of consumer use products such as e-liquids and electronic cigarettes, aerosols and all materials associated with the construction or use of this type of products.


Experience and understanding of Quality Control testing are preferable, including a responsibility with conducting regular e-liquid QC checks on the bench.

Role holder should have an efficient and organised approach to practical activities, time and data management and reporting as well as an approachable and collaborative working style.


WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

  • Conduct QC work activities and generate test protocols and reports, as required, using defined work practices or procedures by thorough understanding of principles and concepts.
  • Perform basic wet chemistry tests of products in accordance to theQC standards using, PH meter, NIR, density, UV-VIS, viscosity, flash point and more.
  • Maintaining rigorous control on the quality of output in order to channel product developments through the pipeline to product launch, ensuring that assigned deliverables follow internal R&D processes and designed methodologies
  • Planning short and longterm management of all Quality Checks requests and using formal project management tools where necessary.
  • Work as part of a team and is responsible for operating in a manner that meets company standards for safety, security, environmental, quality, accuracy and efficiency
  • Performs routine calibration, and maintenance of the laboratory instruments as required for normal lab operations
  • Assisting in formulation production across various eliquids teams
  • Participate in job safety analysis and has good work area housekeeping/follows appropriate PPE
  • Supports the laboratory ISO quality management system and audits
  • Follow and promote Quality procedures and standards to enable the business to achieve and maintain excellent results.
  • Sample management, tracking and database set up
  • Exploit opportunities for standardization in process and business systems for continuous improvement and identify and suggest changes to operating procedures and working practices for subsequent approval.
  • This Senior Technologists role will develop new QC procedures, methods or working practices for management approval in response to technical challenges defined by management, as part of continuous improvement of the eliquids Quality Management System.
  • Guidance from Technical Specialists will be provided

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Experience Required

  • Practical experience in conducting QC checks using PH meter, NIR, density, UV-VIS, rheometer, viscometer.
  • Good technical understanding of eliquids chemistry, active ingredients used and associated science
  • Proven practical laboratory experience backed by knowledge of principles of sample preparation for measurement & analysis
  • Ability to create and check technical documentation against current compliance requirements
  • Relevant technical experience resulting in a thorough knowledge of good laboratory practice, principles of eliquid sample preparation & analysis.
  • Work experience in Data Management and Basic Statistics
  • Awareness of eliquids chemistry and product development processes

  • Ability to work selfsufficiently and under pressure maintaining flexibility
