    Role

    CoSTAR LiveLAB , led by the University of York, and based at Production Park in Wakefield, will focus on applying new virtual production technologies to live events and how the latest developments can be used to ensure the UK has the skills and infrastructure to stay on the cutting edge of this type of technology.

    We are seeking two Postdoctoral Research Associates for the development of new technologies for immersive live performances. The PDRAs will conduct R&D activities at Production Park in Wakefield, in close liaison with the Project Directors and Co-Investigators. Successful candidates will have a strong track record of R&D in creative technologies, including one or more of the following: Machine vision; machine learning; Data science and analytics; immersive and interactive audio; media signal processing; low latency networking; psycho-physics; UX design and testing; VR/AR. Candidates should have strong coding skills. The PDRAs will be expected to work closely with industry partners and other relevant stakeholders on a range of different projects.

    Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

    • PhD in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Psychology or equivalent
    • Expert knowledge in one or more of the following subject areas: Machine vision; machine learning; Data science and analytics; immersive and interactive audio; media signal processing; low latency networking; psycho-physics; UX design and testing; VR/AR
    • Excellent programming skills
    • Knowledge of testing and analysing systems using appropriate methodologies
    • Working knowledge of live performance technologies
    • Good written and oral communication skills
    • Active in developing positive working relationships, both internally and externally
    • Flexibility under pressure
    • Able to acquire new skills and knowledge rapidly
    • Experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research
