We are looking for a dynamic individual with excellent communication, organisational, and secretarial skills to support the administration function of the Haematology/Transplant & TYA education team and transfusion team

This is an exciting opportunity for an administrator to join the established clinical educator and transfusion team.

The Haematology Oncology service at the Christie offers state of the art treatments delivered by leading clinicians to patients with blood cancers and the Teenage and Young Adults across the Manchester Region and beyond.

The post holder will be managed by the Lead nurse and supported by the Senior clinical educator and transfusion practitioner for Haematology/transplant/TYA/transfusion, with additional support and collaborative working from the Lead Nurse TYA & Ambulatory Care/Withington Ward and Lead Nurse Haematology/Cell Therapy Specialist Nurses & Outpatients.

The post holder will be responsible ensuring administrative support in the educational requirements are delivered in line with service requirement.


The band 4 administrator will provide overall coordination for the administrative functions of the department clinical educator team and transfusion team.

This will require coordination of department educational activities, workforce training, clinical skills and key skills training and other professional education activities required in the department.

The Haematology/Transplant, TYA & trust transfusion services have core educational requirements to support the care of the patients and the service.


This will include supporting the haematology & TYA educator team/transfusion practitioners with the administration and organisation of projects and educational events.

The role will be working alongside the lead nurses, educator team and transfusion practitioners in the planning and implementation of staff inductions, educational events, completing transfusion administration registers and excel documents work alongside department leads with departmental service improvement.


The post holder requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, excellent attention to detail and be highly IT literate in Microsoft functions as well as diary management and general day to day office and team co-ordination skills.


The post holder will be responsible for managing and prioritising their own workload and must have the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.

Experience of working within a team and prior experience in the NHS would be highly desirable.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communication and General Administration

  • Ensure all communication, both written and verbal, promotes the work of the education & transfusion practitioners; providing effective interpersonal skills with a range of staff at all levels which is clear, concise, responsive, and personable
  • Ensure the effective support of coordination and administration across the educator team and transfusion practitioners.
  • Gather, analyse and present data, information and reports on education and training activities from a range of electronic sources on behalf of the teams
  • Provide day to day administrative duties e.g. scanning, printing, copying etc
  • Produce and prepare education and training activity materials e.g. flyers, hand outs, evaluation systems ensuring corresponding systems are updated, such as HIVE and Christie Learning Zone
  • In collaboration with managing teams, be responsible for the administration of education and training days/programmes, liaising and securing internal and external event facilitators/trainers, venues, and other resources
  • Develop and maintain records in relation to staff training in line with departmental educational programme. Monitor, update and maintain transfusion training register.
