Working Days and Hours:
Monday to Friday 9:00am-5:00pm
( 3 day in office, 2 days at home)
Main Duties:
- Preparing and submitting a monthly Management Accounts Pack to the Finance Business Partner and to budget holders.
- Designing, producing and maintaining budget reports and other spreadsheet based reports and models in accordance with agreed timetables and departmental policies and procedures.
- Drafting the commentary to accompany monthly management accounts.
- Preparing monthly variance reports for specific departments within a Directorate.
- Investigating any variances from the plan and identifying causes and offering options for resolution.
- Meeting regularly with budget holders and providing information and analysis to them regarding their budgets.
- Supporting all the relevant budget holders in the preparation of their annual including provision of analysis and projections.
- Advising budget holders on possible areas of expenditure reduction.
- Acting as principal contact for key clients, probing business decisions, verifying reports that are drawn up by nonfinancial staff for compatibility with financial information.
- Ensuring that all invoices to external bodies are raised timely and also all supplier invoices are coded in the system accurately.
- Working with Directorates to refine their particular reporting requirements and to work with colleagues in other areas to deliver acceptable solutions to those requirements.
- Organising, attending and minuting performance review meetings and providing briefing papers for senior management on specific issues and decisions.
- Producing action points from review meetings, following up and reporting on any unresolved issues.
- Chasing delivery of agreed actions, including exercising judgement on relative priorities.
- Translating detailed audit recommendations into action plans.
- Managing the budget for the Directorate accounting team.
- Rotation of functional role across other Directorates as instructed by Head of Financial Management.
- Will be required to travel to and from the Trust properties and externally for relevant meetings.
Skills/Qualifications needed:
- Degree or part qualification or actively pursuing a relevant professional qualification
- Evidence of regular professional and personal development training
- CCAB/ CIMA Qualified
- Delivering financial reports to rigorous standards and deadlines.
- At least two years experience of working in an NHS organisation
- At least two years experience of leading a finance team
- Able to identify key trends and potential risks within financial results
- Team worker, able to work with other Directorate finance colleagues to improve the performance of the department as a whole
- Understanding of NHS national reforms and policies
- Able to undertake rigorous analysis and produce cogent recommendations
- Able to work fast under pressure at times of high workload and competing priorities
- High levels of motivation, enthusiasm and tenacity
- Ability to contribute effectively to group discussions and decisions
