The Head of Safety, Health & Wellbeing is the specialist lead for the Safety Health & Wellbeing with a key role in managing and mitigating risks and protecting the organisation's reputation.
Represent the organisation on legal safety compliance issues (including the enforcement action) with HSE, IOPC, HM Coroners and HMICFRS.
They will lead and direct the Safety, Health and wellbeing maturity project and aligned assurance process to providesafety assurance to the Commissioner and Deputy Mayor on service delivery and legal compliance within the organisation.
The role holder is the first contact for all high level contact by Management Board Members and external enforcing agencies such as the HSE (including 24 hour on call service), and for commissioning of work on behalf of the Safety and Health Risk ManagementTeam and Occupational Health Services.
Head of Safety, Health & Wellbeing will lead the legal and safety policy interpretation and provide advice on best practice/value for money on the provision of services within their portfolio, informing or directing the strategies and operational workingof the organisation.
These vital elements ensure an effective and efficient Safety, Health and wellbeing management system, with failure to deliver potentially resulting in criminal enforcement action against the organisation.
The role holder will lead the peer review and clearance of safety investigation reports to enforcing authorities (HSE, IPCC and Coroners inquests) and FOIAs and be responsible for the Safety and Health Risk Management Team, Occupational Health team - includingcontract suppliers (e.g.
With budgetary responsibility for the Safety and Health Risk Management Team budget, Occupational Health (including contracted Services Circa £15M), the Head of Safety, Health & Wellbeing has direct line manager responsibility for two direct and ten secondarystaff reports.
Scanning the external environment and scoping Safety, Health and Wellbeing requirements to cover a 5 year planning horizon
Lead on the delivery of a wellbeing service offer that exceeds national requirements for occupational health & wellbeing provision and has a deep understanding of the issues and health needs that affect the workforce.
Using this insight and the information drawn from regular health surveys to shape the wellbeing offer and prioritise resources according to organisational risk.
