The Opportunity


You will be following the Welsh government approved
Level 2 Nuclear Working Wales Apprenticeship at Coleg Menai. You can expect on the job training at your allocated NRS site and the kind of practical experience you cant get in a college based environment.

As a health physics monitor you will be ensuring people, plant and the environment are kept safe from the effects of radiation and potential contamination.

It's a specialist, hands on and in demand role.

You will be trained to use technical instruments to take readings of surface and airborne contamination levels and radiation dose rates, recording the readings detected and responding accordingly.


What will it look like?
Two years based on your allocated NRS site with day release to Coleg Menai.

You will be supported throughout by the college and the site team to ensure you have sufficient evidence and knowledge to complete your apprenticeship.


What we need:


  • Five GCSEs in the 9 to 3 (A* to D) range, ideally including maths and science.
  • Is aged 18 or over on the
  • Is self motivated but also a team player.
  • Can manage their time well and balance work and study effectively.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach
  • Interest in a career in Radiological Protection
  • Commitment to safety

Other requirements
ALL NRS employees must be security cleared prior to employment.

You will need to live within commuting distance to the site where the role is based.

Although you will be predominantly based at your allocated site, you can expect on the job training that could take you to any of our 12 sites across the UK providing you with the practical experience you need to complete your apprenticeship.
