AK Teaching is seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis to work within a school environment in Morpeth.
This school caters for children who have a range of special educational needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
As an experienced Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the learners within the classroom alongside the class teacher and potentially other teaching assistants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to students with a range of special educational needs, including ASD and SEMH.
- Assist the class teacher in implementing individualised learning plans and behaviour management strategies.
- Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where all students feel supported and valued.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members to adapt teaching materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Use positive reinforcement and effective communication techniques to encourage student engagement and participation.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to the assessment and evaluation process.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar role is essential.
- Resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure when dealing with challenging behaviours.
- Availability Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
- Knowledge and understanding of ASD and SEMH, and strategies for supporting students with these needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
- A patient and empathetic approach to working with children with special educational needs.
