AK Teaching is seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis to work within a school environment in Morpeth.

This school caters for children who have a range of special educational needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

As an experienced Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the learners within the classroom alongside the class teacher and potentially other teaching assistants.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide tailored support to students with a range of special educational needs, including ASD and SEMH.
  • Assist the class teacher in implementing individualised learning plans and behaviour management strategies.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where all students feel supported and valued.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members to adapt teaching materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Use positive reinforcement and effective communication techniques to encourage student engagement and participation.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to the assessment and evaluation process.

Requirements:


  • Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar role is essential.
  • Resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure when dealing with challenging behaviours.
  • Availability Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ASD and SEMH, and strategies for supporting students with these needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
  • A patient and empathetic approach to working with children with special educational needs.
