AK Teaching is seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis to work within a school environment in Morpeth.

This school caters for children who have a range of special educational needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

As an experienced Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the learners within the classroom alongside the class teacher and potentially other teaching assistants.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide tailored support to students with a range of special educational needs, including ASD and SEMH.
Assist the class teacher in implementing individualised learning plans and behaviour management strategies.
Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where all students feel supported and valued.
Work collaboratively with other staff members to adapt teaching materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of students.
Use positive reinforcement and effective communication techniques to encourage student engagement and participation.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to the assessment and evaluation process.

Requirements:

Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar role is essential.
Resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure when dealing with challenging behaviours.
Availability Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
Knowledge and understanding of ASD and SEMH, and strategies for supporting students with these needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
A patient and empathetic approach to working with children with special educational needs.
