Description

The purpose of the Fleet Reliability Engineer is to use practical and technical skills to review and investigate reliability issues affecting fleet performance and develop solutions within the Engineering function to drive improvements that meet Chiltern Railways performance targets.

In this role you will work with the Fleet Performance Analyst to lead the development of solutions for identified defect/failure trends through the use of modifications, new technologies and processes.

Provide technical support to Production and Fleet Technical Services departments, including front line Skilled Service staff.


Investigate and understand the root cause of trending or developing reliability concerns using practical hands on methods, technical expertise and available technology.

Develop short term and long terms solutions to improve fleet reliability.

Support the root cause analysis process.

Use diagnostic software to identify faults with various train systems.

Work closely with the Senior Fleet Performance Manager to help identify and manage performance improvement initiatives.


Work closely with the Fleet Performance Analyst to review performance data, establish performance trends and help develop the required investigation and preventative work streams.


Work with the Fleet Technical Services team to understand performance risks and possible solutions and assist where necessary to provide supporting data for the business case.


To assist the Fleet delay attribution process to ensure that fleet delays are appropriately challenged and attributed with correctly defined root causes.

Recognised Mechanical/Electrical Engineering apprenticeship / Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in electrical or mechanical engineering

Experience in a train maintenance role, or a role maintaining similar assets

Highly motivated and proactive who can work both independently and as part of a team, with excellent technical skills.

Strong ability to read and understand electrical schematics

Experience of mechanical and electrical fault finding and repairs and able to work under own initiative
