Description

Lead in operational management and support of the PACs system within the breast unit; to ensure effective management of PACS systems including activities such as workflows, archiving, exporting and importing images, monitoring secure view communication errors.

To lead and assist on integration work related to systems used in the breast unit; NBSS and CRIS To monitor interfaces with Breast Unit PACS.

To support staff in the use of the PACs system, and that training is provided via 1:1 or group sessions.

Excellent communication skills with staff are essential to explain systems to all bandings.


To effectively troubleshoot any issues on a day to day basis in regards to PACs, ensuring that excellent complex problem solving skills are utilised.

To assist in the connectivity of modalities in connection to IT, communicate technical details to relevant parties/systems. To assist in ensuring that DICOM compatibility is maintained and integrated with existing and new systems.

Ensure that all policies and procedures are up to date, audited regularly and any changes implemented and disseminated to staff.

Ensure audit/QA is performed as per NHSBSP standards and that this information is documented and shared with relevant staff.

To develop links with Main Imaging PACS for points of reference and to attend any training workshops provided by Main Imaging PACS.

To liaise with IT and Medical Physics if required and when new equipment is being procured to confirm compatibility with existing service.

To maintain a highly specialised knowledge of PACS systems and implement this knowledge accordingly.

Ensuring that ones own workload is managed effectively with mínimal supervision.

To provide a high quality service in all aspects of mammography on the mobile units, imaging one client every 6 minutes.

Also assessment clinics and symptomatic referral service, to a standard acceptable to the Division and NHSBSP.

To be responsible for monitoring the quality of Radiographic technique to ensure 97% of images are technically adequate and that less than 3% of clients are recalled for repeat examination.

To participate in the department's Extended Working Day System/Sessional working where agreed with the post holder. To assist in the development and production of protocols, procedures and training manuals as directed by the Superintendent Mammographer. To assist radiologists performing u/s scans and needle biopsy procedures.

Undertakes complex and highly specialised views and techniques at assessment including the use of stereo tactic (computer aided) localization devices to enable specimen biopsies to be taken accurately.


To use relative knowledge and clinical experience to adapt technique in order to ensure effective diagnostic imaging for all women/patients including those who present in wheelchairs, with cardiac pacemakers, breast implants or with previous breast surgery.

The Division currently operates services at City Hospital, Sandwell General Hospital, Walsall Manor Hospital and in the community based units.

The post holder may be required to undertake duties, appropriate to their skills and experience, at these and any other sites, as the service requires.
