Your new role

Our Client is a privately owned, multi-discipline, award winning Principal Contractor offering a full range of professional construction, design and building services.

Reporting to the Regional Director, the Buyer is responsible for a full range of purchasing activities focussing on achieving the best possible commercial outcome for the company and clients.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Takes off material requirements from drawings or other information supplied.
  • Issues enquiries and drawings to potential suppliers and obtains quotations.
  • Places and progresses purchase orders and deals with invoice queries.
  • Interprets and manages material specification issued.
  • Initiates, develops, and maintains a strong relationship with existing, new/alternative; suppliers to meet the company's changing needs.
  • Uses their skill and experience to improve our purchasing effectiveness, bring innovation; to our cost structure and obtain a net reduction in procurement costs.
  • Maintains effective communication on daytoday activities with both site teams and contracts management working proactively to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Communicates procurement needs to other departments advising on matters of best purchasing practice.
  • Collates and summarises data in order to assist the Regional Director with his monthly management report.
  • Assists the Regional Director in presenting the department to our business as a forward thinking and important influence in the profitability and success of the company.
  • Understand the provisions of all applicable legislation and other stakeholder requirements for QHSE.
  • Ensure that all users of products and articles supplied or hired for use are made aware of any relevant QHSE information and instructions provided by the manufacturer or supplier.
  • Ensure that all equipment, materials, and services supplied to the company are in accordance with company requirements and meet the applicable statutory requirements.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required by the Business.
  • Actively engages with management processes.
  • Manage the works proactively.
  • Actively use initiative when managing work and approaching situations. Knowledge, training, and experience required
  • Experience of construction products and techniques.
  • Maths and English skills.
  • Experience in a customer facing role, with a proven track record of putting clients first.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety and Environmental safety requirements.
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of the Microsoft Office packages.
