Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse - Leicester, United Kingdom - University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust
![Default job background](https://contents.bebee.com/public/img/bg-user-ex-1.jpg)
Description
Job summary
University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) is a large NHS teaching trust providing integrated patient care in one of the UK's most diverse cities. We are a national and regional centre for specialist treatment, a renowned biomedical research facility, and the local hospital for people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
UHL has three acute hospitals and eight community sites, employing 18,000 colleagues and caring for million patients each year.
In April 2024 UHL are one of the top 5 most improved trusts in the country. We halved the number of patients waiting longer than necessary on an urgent suspected cancer pathway and increased the number of patients diagnosed within 28 days. However, we recognise there is still much more to do. With 1in2 people affected by cancer this is a pivotal role that will lead and support how we shape and deliver our services to reduce waiting times and improve patient experience and outcomes for our community.
The Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse will play a critical role in collaboration with all clinical teams in ensuring the provision of high-level operational and strategic planning and leadership.
Main duties of the job
Working closely with a range of specialist nurses in cancer, palliative and end of life care within the Trust, the Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse will provide expert advice to take forward cancer nursing practice and professional development in line with local, regional and national priorities.
As an experienced nurse, you will support the management of complex and multi-faceted demands on the cancer pathway, delivering transformational change. The post holder will work to continuously improve the quality of health provision for patients with cancer, and their families. This will be achieved by collaborative working across the integrated care system, commissioners, cancer alliances and voluntary sector.
About us
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years
We have four primary goals:
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
About the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust:
Job descriptionJob responsibilities
This post is vital to ensuring that National Cancer targets and Quality standards can be delivered in line with the NHS Long Term plan in conjunction with the cancer and clinical teams across the Trust.
