    Job Summary

    An exciting opportunity is available for a dedicated and enthusiastic nurse practitioner to join our dynamic Ophthalmology outpatient department.

    Working closely with a diverse team to deliver top-quality care to our patients across different Ophthalmology specialties including Macular theatres.

    We are seeking candidates who are passionate about providing exceptional care and embody the CHFT values.

    Main Duties of the Job

    • Work within the Macular, Retinal Vein Occlusion, and Diabetic Macular Oedema service to administer intravitreal injections following national guidelines and department policies.
    • Participate in the Glaucoma service by conducting monitoring assessments, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, and ensuring optimal service delivery.
    • Lead a nurse-led cyst clinic, making treatment decisions and performing procedures according to department protocols.
    • Conduct diagnostic tests in Macular and Glaucoma sub-specialties as needed.
    • Perform Biometry measurements following Royal College of Ophthalmology guidance.
    • Independently administer intravitreal injections to patients in Macular, RVO, and DMO clinics, aligning with treatment protocols and NICE guidelines.
    • Review patient records to ensure the appropriateness of planned injections and overall treatment pathways.
    • Develop and enhance cross-site nursing services to ensure the highest level of care based on government and professional guidelines.

    Job Description

    Job Responsibilities

    Main Tasks

    • Undertake various responsibilities within the Macular, Retinal Vein Occlusion, and Diabetic Macular Oedema service.
    • Engage in the Glaucoma service activities for patient monitoring and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
    • Lead the nurse-led cyst clinic, making treatment decisions in line with clinical protocols.
    • Execute diagnostic tests within Macular and Glaucoma sub-specialties.
    • Perform necessary Biometry measurements as per guidelines.

    Clinical Duties

    • Independently administer intravitreal injections to patients in various clinics.
    • Review patient records to ensure treatment appropriateness.
    • Provide and advance cross-site nursing services.
    • Take responsibility for professional actions without direct supervision.
    • Conduct diagnostic tests and assessments for Glaucoma Monitoring Clinics patients.
    • Ensure accurate and concise patient records are maintained during all clinics.

    Professional Duties

    • Deliver training on medical device equipment required in Ophthalmology.
    • Supervise and educate nursing students and new staff.
    • Participate in clinical governance activities and maintain standards of care.
    • Contribute to nursing research and evidence-based practice.
    • Promote equality and diversity in all aspects of work.

    Managerial Duties

    • Support the Service Manager in improving services and performance.
    • Participate in risk assessment and minimize risks.
    • Establish and maintain professional links at local, regional, and national levels.

      Person Specification

      Qualifications/Training

      Essential

      • RGN/Diploma or nursing degree, Ophthalmic Nursing qualification Level 6.
      • Willingness to pursue Ophthalmic postgraduate roles.
      • Qualifications in macular, glaucoma, and emergency care.

      Desirable

      • Completion of relevant qualifications and certifications.

      Knowledge, Experience & Expertise

      Essential

      • Experience in Macular and Glaucoma clinics.
      • Strong leadership and prioritization skills.
      • Thorough knowledge of Ophthalmic conditions and treatments.

      Desirable

      • Attendance in specialized training courses and conferences.
      • Experience with Ophthalmic medical devices.
      • Communication and Relationships

        Essential

        • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
        • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
        • Good time management and budget awareness skills.

        Desirable

        • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
