Description
Location: Sellafield, West Cumbria
Starting Salary: £44,287 – £52,945 depending on experience
Further salary progression available subject to performance in role
Bonus: Up to 10% base salary per annum, based on achievement of Company targets and personal performance.
Every successful clean up mission at Sellafield has a Safety Case behind it We are a key enabler for the site to complete its mission. Therefore, every success that Sellafield Ltd has is a Safety Case success too. Not only do we enable the clean-up of the Sellafield site but we also do valuable work in support of other companies and "help keep the lights on" in the UK.
We are proud as a profession to say that we have members who are key international experts in some of the nuclear safety assessment disciplines and therefore have a wealth of knowledge and experience for you to learn from. We are also proud of the culture we have within the profession. The jobs in our profession are challenging, but in the recent employee survey we scored above the company average on all the cultural metrics, this shows us that our employees feel valued.
Safety Cases form the backbone of nuclear safety at Sellafield, helping develop safe solutions for projects and maintain safe conditions on our facilities.
The Safety Case is not only a fundamental requirement of our licence to operate, but essential in our understanding of hazards and safety controls.
Safety Case professionals work on projects and facilities site-wide and through the full facility lifecycle from design, through operations, to decommissioning and demolition. They are responsible for not only understanding and analysing the nuclear hazards and risks that could occur but identifying how safety can be managed and ensuring robust controls are implemented in practice.
Our Profession Mission: To deliver Sellafield Ltd's legal obligations in achieving the mission of delivering a clean and safe environment for future generations, through the development and management of nuclear safety cases.
Our Profession Vision: We are One Team with an enterprise-wide focus, with the right people, skills and tools to deliver the SL mission. Our structure provides everyone with clarity on their contribution and we operate in an environment where individuals and teams can thrive.
The Safety Case Advisor is responsible for supporting the Safety Case Manager in the development, implementation, maintenance and review of the Safety Case, ensuring that the Safety Case delivered is clear and user friendly for all stakeholders.
Typical tasks undertaken by Safety Case Advisors include, but not limited to:
• Provide high quality Safety Case advice.
• Work collaboratively with other disciplines to support safety case development and management activities for the facility.
• Effectively implement Safety Cases and Safety Assessments to ensure that operators and maintainers remain safe
• Present Safety Case documents to safety committees on behalf of the Safety Case Manager (as required).
• Support engagements with Regulatory bodies and other external stakeholders for the associated facility Safety Case.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory/ company policies.
The Ideal Candidate:
• Strong communication skills- written and verbal.
• Ability to influence, communicate and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders across a team and business area.
• Good analytical thinking skills, with experience of solving novel and possibly challenging technical issues.
• Computer literate.
• Good planning skills.
• Self-motivated with a high level of resilience.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
Candidates without existing Safety Case experience are welcomed to apply, as a specific Career Pathway exists for this role. You may be recruited as a trainee against the above role with a starting band of £44,287 with progression to £52,945 on completion of the associated workbook, training, dependent on other relevant skills/experience.
Why choose Sellafield?
Seventy-five years ago, we helped to create the nation's nuclear deterrent. Today, we're using our unrivalled knowledge of nuclear to create a clean and safe environment for future generations.
In cleaning up the birthplace of the UK's nuclear industry, we are once again generating growth and employment in West Cumbria, the North West of England and beyond.
Our 11,000 strong workforce is joined by more than 40,000 people from the best of the best in the nuclear supply chain, from small Cumbrian businesses to global market leaders. We need this diversity of thinking, of backgrounds, cultures and experiences.
What's in it for you?
At Sellafield Ltd, we are committed to supporting our employees in fulfilling their potential. With 100 years of work in front of us, we offer comprehensive training and development opportunities, enabling you to feel inspired in your role. Whatever area you join us in, you'll find a genuinely exciting and rewarding career.
Making sure our employees feel supported is important to us. Therefore, to help you get the most out of life in and outside of work, we also offer a range of employee benefits:
• An attractive defined contribution pension scheme – the company will match up to 13.5% for a 7% employee contribution
