    Job summary

    Do you feel that your profession can offer so much more within an acute hospital setting? Maybe you wish that you had more time and resources during the day to offer a range of occupational therapy interventions? If so, we have the position for you

    We welcome applications from current band 6 or experienced band 5 occupational therapists who are motivated to learn and feel confident in utilising their dual-training in physical and mental health, in order to facilitate patient recovery. You will help us drive forward our ambitious vision for the department; to set a precedent for other cardiothoracic hospitals by bringing tomorrow's treatments to today's patients.

    Main duties of the job

    Become part of our supportive and innovative team covering inpatient services, including bank holiday and Saturday working.

    Rotations are in the following areas:

    -Transplant and cardiac surgery

    -Thoracic and pulmonary endarterectomy surgery

    -Respiratory support and sleep centre (RSSC), respiratory medicine and cystic fibrosis.

    -Cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation

    There will also be an opportunity to work on critical care as part of a new teaching programme.

    We will provide you with:

    -Support and teaching across all rotational areas, including regular in-service training sessions.

    -Regular one to ones, appraisals and competency support.

    -In-house courses and access to external courses and conferences.

    -Involvement with expert multi-disciplinary teams.

    -Opportunity to participate and lead service development projects and audits.

    -Participation in research.

    -Support and guidance for you to mentor students and junior staff.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • BSc/MSc/Grad. Dip. Occupational Therapy
  • Desirable

  • Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT)
  • Member of a specialist section of RCOT
  • Member of Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery (SCTS)
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Experience of audit, service improvement projects and / or research projects
  • Evidence of on-going professional development demonstrated by a profile
  • Experience of rehabilitation of complex patients
  • Able to manage a caseload of patients, which could include more complex cases, independently
  • Knowledge of common cardiac and respiratory conditions
  • Working knowledge of current NHS priorities and initiatives
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and delegate effectively to others
  • Good teaching and presentation skills
  • Good IT skills
  • Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience at Band 6 of managing cardio-respiratory patients independently
  • Experience of weekend working
  • Experience of working in critical care
  • Experience of working with patients with neurological dysfunction
  • Practical & theoretical student training experience
  • Experience of staff supervision
  • Awareness of the current evidence base research relevant to specific areas
