Grade 10 from £61,929 to £65,537 per annum inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £67,422 per annum inclusive of London Weighting through sustained exceptional contribution.

The College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences comprises seven academic departments delivering education programmes to over 5000 students.

We are seeking a proactive and experienced individual to join our team as Associate Director.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing College technical teaching and research facilities and approximately 45 technicians, IT staff and technical managers.

You will have overall responsibility for the safe and effective functioning of a large portfolio of technical facilities, planning technical support for a diverse educational and research programme and for general management of all College buildings, including office accommodation for staff and doctoral researchers.


The post requires an experienced manager, who will be able to develop and lead a diverse interdisciplinary technical team and set a clear direction and delegate effectively across a range of operational areas.

You should also be able to demonstrate a well-developed interpersonal approach, with the ability to exercise influence and diplomacy, and to build credibility within the College and the wider University community.

You will also be capable of developing new systems and processes to drive business improvement and have the ability to plan and manage change in a diverse stakeholder environment.


This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual wishing to develop a career in the Higher Education sector at a time of significant development and change.

A background in Higher Education is not necessarily required however an appreciation of an educational or research environment would be an advantage for this particular role.

Experience of managing technical facilities and staff is an essential prerequisite for this post and demonstrable experience of health and safety assurance systems would be a distinct advantage.
