Salary:
starter salary from £63,712 rising to £70,715 (Grade 12) in role


Location:
The role will be flexibly based between Service HQ (Kelvedon), home working, and a requirement to travel around the county to visit all Service premises*
Closing date: Monday 15th April, 5pm

*We are open to discuss working arrangements including flexibility over hours and location


The role


Are you ready for a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join one of the country's biggest, dynamic, and progressive Fire & Rescue Services? Essex County Fire & Rescue Services (ECFRS) is seeking a Head of Prevention, responsible for leading our community interactions, and the successful embedding and implementation of all Prevention strategies and action plans.

You will also be responsible for leading our Prevention function, which includes the following teams:

  • Live Safe: Home Safety & Safe & Well Delivery, Volunteering, Inclusion, Partnerships, ECFRS Heritage Functions, Community Wellbeing Officers, and TRI Service Officers
  • Education &

Specialist Interventions:
Cadets, Joint ECFRS & Police Education Officers, Duke of Edinburgh, Juvenile Fire Setters & Firebreak Delivery Programmes.

  • Road &

Water Safety:
Safer Essex Road Partnership (SERP) and partnerships activities


What you'll be working on
Community Risk Management Plan

Service Delivery Plans

Reviewing the Structure to maximise Productivity and Efficiency Ensuring that we raise the profile of ECFRS with key strategic partners, stakeholders, and communities, Influence external facing partnerships and key strategic level stakeholders,

Ensuring continuous improvement of ECFRS Prevention Interventions

Ensuring the development of robust evaluation and quality assurance processes

Alignment to National Standards and Legislative Requirements

Horizon scanning of government / national agendas to contribute and influence community-focused and a person-centred approach,


Champion collaborative approaches across prevention, protection, and response to support organisational priorities; placing people at the centre of what we do.


What are we looking for?


You'll have a background of inspiring community involvement and partnership working, of bringing people together and working to improve the lives of others.

You'll be an inclusive and collaborative leader, leading others to achieving a shared vision in making Essex a safe place to live, work and travel.


You'll have lots of examples of how you've successfully led diverse teams to deliver great things, and how you have made a difference with external communities and to other people, and will also have experience of working on national, regional, and local initiatives and ensuring competing agendas are well-managed.


You will be able to demonstrate how you use date, information, and evidence to inform a continuous improvement mindset, able and willing to challenge the status quo and lead and manage change as a natural role model and inclusive champion.

You must be able to show us your commitment to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults, as well as how you will contribute to a positive working environment, valuing the contributions of all, and promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Stage 1
Application and shortlisting (assessment of your supporting statement will be made against the essential criteria of the person specification)


Stage 2

Assessment Centre including:


  • Media Exercise


  • Stakeholder Panel

  • Equality Diversity and Inclusion
  • Presentation and Panel Interview (Details of the presentation will be forwarded following shortlisting)
Assessments will be made against positive indicators taken from the Code of Ethics and the NFCC Leadership Framework).

We expect the assessment centre will take place at Service HQ, Kelvedon Park, on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 May 2024.
