    Job description:

The team
This vacancy is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the Biodiversity Gain Site Register function.

A brand-new function, one of the most significant for Natural England, delivering the government's flagship policy on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).

The Environment Bill will make the Biodiversity Net Gains approach to development mandatory in the English planning system.

It will require planning applicants to deliver 10% BNG, as measured by the Biodiversity Metric, on their own development site or at an offsite location, in order to receive planning permission from the Local Planning Authority (LPA).

To ensure BNG is implemented consistently and transparently, the Bill will require two new services:

Biodiversity Gain Site Register - A publicly accessible record of sites delivering BNG across England and a Statutory Credits scheme.

You will be at the forefront of helping to build the Register Operator function; a new function responsible for ensuring the BNG approach is transparent and credible, and that sites added to the Biodiversity Gain Site Register are administratively sound.

Being the BNG Register Operator gives Natural England a unique opportunity to drive policy underpinning the successful delivery of Net Gain.

This significant new function, of over 120 people, will involve working at pace, and in partnership across Natural England, to ensure we have a highly skilled and effective team working to embed Biodiversity Net Gain into our vision of thriving nature for people and planet.
