Shift pattern:


Week 1:
Mon - Thurs 06:00-14:00

Fri 06:00-11:00


Week 2:
Mon - Thurs 14:00-22:00

Fri 11:00-16:00


Main Function:
Responsible for the quality, waste and running performance of your area. Taking ownership of training and evaluation of new operators.


Report to:
Shift Production Manager


Main purpose of the job:
This is a working Section Leader role, responsible for a number of lines and machines.

Working closely with the Shift Production Manager to maximise running efficiency, minimise waste, whilst maintaining the high standards of quality that needs to be delivered.

Working with the Shift Production Manager to gain the skills needed to stand in should the Shift Production Manager be absent.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Maximise production efficiency, maintaining run rates in your section.
  • Reduce waste (stock and components) below 5%.
  • Maintain and where possible, improve quality standards.
  • Training new starters to the section with regards to their quality of work, levels of waste, run rates, housekeeping etc using agreed training schedule and targets.
  • Improve and maintain levels of housekeeping.
  • Take responsibility for Health and Safety issues and report them appropriately.
  • Tool audits, Dye Library
  • Set ups and troubleshooting
  • Waste management
  • Deal with material shortages in the absence of a storeman.
  • Liaising with Engineering to sort out problems to prevent machine breakdowns.

Key Skills:


  • Ability to set up specific machinery within the extruder area in a safe and effective manner. Basic understanding of the machines in the mix area.
  • To achieve the tasks set within an agreed time and effectively communicating progress to others.
  • Ability to coach new starters in an effective manner.
  • Accurate recording on the training schedule and communication of issues to the Shift Production Manager in an effective and timely manner.
  • Accurate recording of daily activity and material usage.
  • Participation in company wide and specific continuous improvement activities.

Personal Specification:


  • Computer literate
  • Good written and verbal skills
  • Ability to interpret detailed work orders and quality information.
  • Ability to train and coach new operators in the use of extruders and ancillary equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and operate as part of a manufacturing team.

Desired Experience:


  • 3+ years experience of direst first line management of an operational team in a fast paced environment.
  • First Aid/Fire Marshall trained
  • Competent in performing risk assessments
  • Ability to make sound and reasonable operational decisions
  • Experience of using SAP
