Job Title:
Laboratory Assistant

Role:

Assisting Laboratory Technicians with routine tritium and beryllium analysis services in the HP laboratory whilst maintaining the highest levels of accuracy and precision.

To abide by all laboratories safety instructions and to follow prepared procedures accurately.

Reporting to:
Health Physics Laboratory Supervisor

Responsibilities for Performing Laboratory Tasks:

Responsible for the assistance in preparation of samples for beryllium analysis by UV fluorescence as defined in the laboratory procedures.
Responsible for the preparation of samples for tritium analysis by liquid scintillation techniques as defined in the laboratory procedures.
The Laboratory Assistant is required to carry out support duties for the routine functioning of the laboratory, for example glassware cleaning, disinfecting and decontaminating, results input into samples database, stocking up of laboratory consumables, calculating beryllium and tritium data prior to publication, and other administrative duties.
The Laboratory Assistant must attend Laboratory meetings as required.

Reporting opinions and interpretations:
All opinions and interpretations of results are to be made to the Senior Laboratory Technician in the first instance. Contact the Laboratory Supervisor concerning any technical problems with plant and equipment.
