Are you a sports enthusiast with a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges? AK Teaching, a reputable SEN school in Northumberland, is seeking a Classroom-Based Sports Coach (LSA) to join our dedicated team.
Role Overview:
In this unique role, you won't be primarily focused on traditional sports coaching. Instead, your sports background will serve as a foundation for engaging and connecting with learners in a classroom-based setting.
You will play a vital role in supporting students across the full curriculum, particularly those with SEMH and challenging behaviors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with teaching staff to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
- Build positive relationships with students, including those with SEMH challenges.
- Utilize your sports background to connect with learners and promote a healthy, active lifestyle.
- Provide support for students with challenging behaviors, helping them develop social and emotional skills.
- Assist in classroom management and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs).
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Previous experience in sports coaching or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to handle challenging behaviors with a calm and positive approach.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
- A commitment to the personal and academic development of students with SEMH challenges.

- Provide sports coaching and instruction to individuals or groups
- Develop and implement training programs tailored to the needs and skill levels of participants
- Teach fundamental skills, strategies, and techniques related to the specific sport
- Plan and organize practice sessions and game strategies
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of participants, providing feedback for improvement
- Create a positive and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth
- Ensure the safety of participants during training sessions and competitions
Experience:
- Previous experience in coaching or teaching sports, preferably with a focus on children or individuals with special needs
- Knowledge of tutoring and mentoring techniques to effectively educate and support participants
- Familiarity with working with individuals with autism or special education needs
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with participants, parents, and other coaches
- Ability to adapt coaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities

£85.00-£95.00 per day
