    Brief Description

    We're looking for a brilliant social media manager who loves working with people and wants to tell great stories. They can spot the potential for a news story, or a social media hit at 20 paces, enjoy a fast pace, turn a technical briefing into a 90-second video or a short and succinct social media post. We want someone who can build connections and contacts throughout the industry and manage our digital output across social media and our website, telling our stories and showing how great the railway is. You'll also engage with our followers across all our channels, including keeping passengers and freight customers up to date when things don't go to plan. There's be opportunities to support the delivery of media relations activities, helping to provide 24/7 press and social media cover for Network Rail in Scotland.

    This job is exciting, offers independence and freedom, the opportunity to be creative and work on some of the most exciting railway projects, including opening new railway lines or telling the story of some of Scotland's most iconic structures, including the Forth Bridge and Glenfinnan Viaduct. In return, we're looking for someone who has excellent judgement, who can guide some of the most senior railway managers in the country one minute, and next, craft a message to passengers to help them understand what's going on with their train. That someone also recognises that you never know when that big phone call is going to come.

    This job isn't one where you'll be expected to be at home or at your desk all the time, it's a get out and meet people job, it's a grab a camera and make a film job, it's an everyday is different job, it's a job you'll love in a place where you can develop your career and never stop learning.

    Based in Glasgow, you'll be part of the Scotland's Railway communications team You'll also work collaboratively with colleagues across the UK on a regular basis.

    About the role (External)

    Here are some of the duties your role will include: -

    ·Implement and deliver strategies and activities in the media environment that enable the delivery of objectives contained in the company's media and communications strategies.

    ·Take part in the delivery of a full-media, 24-hour-a-day, year-round communications service for the business, including taking part in on-call arrangements to deal with out-of-hours activity on behalf of the company.

    ·Implement national campaigns in line with company priorities and objectives.

    ·Effectively manage the processes, quality standards and operational systems for regional / business portfolio media co-ordination, planning and information exchange.

    ·Direct and control the output of social media, press releases, briefing sessions, photo opportunities and visits for the media. Organise broadcasts as necessary. Monitor media commentary and prepare suitable responses aimed at clarifying / correcting any misconceptions.

    ·Monitor social media channels, create engaging content, and provide swift and accurate engagement with passengers and stakeholders.

    ·Inform the senior media relations manager or head of media of any significant media enquiries or activity.

    ·Monitor the effectiveness of press coverage for Network Rail, taking corrective action where necessary.

    ·Maintain regular contact with editors and senior journalists so that they understand our role and policies and are aware of key stories.

    ·Implement the major incident communications plan as required.

    What you will bring to the role: -

    ·Wide experience in media work with a proven track record in journalism or public relations.

    ·Excellent writing and broadcasting skills.

    ·The experience and personal credibility to work effectively with senior managers.

    ·Strong influencing skills.

    ·Ability to work in a team.

    ·Ability to work under pressure.
