We are pleasedto offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to join thepharmacy team at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust at this exciting time in thedevelopment of our services.

    You will be part of our progressive Pharmacy team andcontribute to the implementation of the Medicines Optimisation and PharmacyServices strategy, striving for excellence to provide the highest standards ofcare for our patients.

    In addition to excellent communication and clinical skillsyou will have previous experience of working within a clinical environment. Youwill have completed a post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy, be near tocompletion, or have the equivalent relevant clinical experience and skills to supportyour work as a specialist clinical pharmacist. Evidence of multi-disciplinaryteamwork would be advantageous. You must be registered as a pharmacist with theGeneral Pharmaceutical Council.

    You will contribute to the weekend rota, late night rota andemergency duty rota.

    You will also be encouraged to undertake the Non-MedicalPrescribing course if you have not already done so.

    Main duties of the job

    To deliver a high quality specialist clinical Pharmacy service.

    To provide specialist clinical support to AdvancedClinical Pharmacist(s) in a specific clinical specialty area.

    To undertake routine clinical Pharmacy duties indesignated areas of work, both clinical and operational and ensure compliancewith medicines legislation.

    To support pharmacy service areas in thedepartment on a rotational basis. Thismay include dispensaries, technical services and medicines information.

    Departmental duties will require the individualwhere appropriate to take a clinical supervisory role. Day to day management ofthe whole staff group will rest with the Specialist pharmacy technician/managerof that area.

    To undertake the professional duties of apharmacist within the Trust's service.

    To ensure, under the guidance of the relevant Pharmacy manager, appropriate supervision of Pharmacy Technicians, AssistantTechnical Officers and Trainee pharmacists and to provide mentoring of juniorpharmacists in order to maintain strict compliance with checking and workingprocedures.

    Job responsibilities

    Area of responsibility

    The Specialist Clinical Pharmacistwill work closely with the Advanced Clinical Pharmacist to support the deliveryof Medicines Optimisation and Pharmacy services to Dewsbury and DistrictHospital. This includes:

  • Contributingto the development and maintenance of policies and guidelines.
  • Liaising with all grades of medical and nursingstaff over relevant aspects of the pharmacy service. Helping to implementnecessary service changes as a consequence of these consultations.
  • Identifying, reporting on and responding to risk management issues or clinical incidents, referring to peers as necessary.
  • Generatingand reviewing reports in order to assist Advanced Clinical Pharmacists toinform the Trust about medication usage and expenditure and/or safety issuesrelated to medicines.
  • Participatingin audits to demonstrate the effectiveness or identify development needs of allsystems relating to the use of medicines.
  • Deliver, incollaboration with staff in the Medicines Information department, support forFormulary & Drug Usage Audit initiatives.
  • The post holder will be required to work at any locationwhere the Trust provides services.

  • Community Services, visiting patients in theirown homes or care homes to conduct clinical medication reviews and improveadherence.

  • Must be physically able to visit wards and departments across the Trust as required by the activities of the job.
  • Willing and able to travel throughout the Wakefield District area to cover community services roles.
  • Skills and Abilities

    Essential

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • The postholder must be equally at ease talking to patients, medical and nursing staff of all grades in both primary and secondary care and will need to present written and verbal reports to senior hospital staff.
  • The post holder must have standard keyboard skills and a familiarity with routine office software word processing, spread sheeting and PowerPoint.

  • Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in pharmacy obtained through four years undergraduate training.
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Desirable

  • Membership of the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacists Association.
  • Membership of the Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists.
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
  • Non-medical prescribing or working towards a prescribing qualification.
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Experience in pharmacy practice obtained through pre-registration training and examination.
  • A broad experience of clinical working in a number of specialty areas at a developed level.
  • Desirable

  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and experience in hospital pharmacy.
