Welcome to an exciting opportunity to join the South East London Diabetic Eye Screening Programme at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. This programme is one of the country's largest, providing screening for over 100,000 patients with strong connections to ophthalmology and diabetes services in SE London. Screening takes place in various locations including hospitals, health centers, and opticians across Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Bromley, Bexley, and Greenwich.
This fixed-term position offers an entry-level NHS role perfect for those looking to gain clinical experience. Extensive training and support will be provided, making it a great fit for candidates from a healthcare background seeking a fresh challenge.
Opportunities for advancement include moving on to the nationally recognized Health Screeners Diploma (HSD) training program post, should a permanent position open up. With HSD qualification, candidates can progress to more skilled roles within the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme.
Main Duties of the Job
As a Screener, your responsibilities will involve taking patient medical history, performing visual acuity assessments, applying eye drops, and capturing retinal photographs using specialized digital cameras. Screeners work independently or in pairs, managing their clinics with remote guidance from a Team Leader.
Excellent customer/patient care and communication skills are crucial for this role. Candidates should be self-disciplined, focused, and capable of independent work to deliver top-quality care to patients.
