An exciting opportunity within the North East Wales Waste Regulation team to protect and enhance the environment of Wales by effective and efficient regulation of permitted waste sites, such as non-hazardous and hazardous waste transfer and treatment sites, biowaste treatment sites, scrap metal sites and closed landfills.

The role also deals with illegal waste sites and associated enforcement.


The successful applicant will work out in the environment, responding to reports of environmental incidents in a safe, efficient and timely manner, and undertake appropriate investigation and enforcement work.

Following our Regulatory Principles, you will seek to ensure compliance with the relevant regulations, e.g.

Environmental Permitting Regulations, undertake proportionate enforcement action and achieve tangible multiple benefits and protection of the environment by using appropriate regulatory interventions.


This is a dynamic and rewarding role, giving you the chance to lead on environmental improvements by working with our customers to improve the wellbeing of local communities through environmental compliance.

You will work with a dedicated team of like-minded people who are all working to improve the environment of NE Wales in line with our Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (SMNR) principles.


The role will include both site work undertaking regulatory inspections of permitted and unpermitted waste management sites, and office-based working.

You will occasionally be required to travel to other offices.


You will be required to participate in pollution incident response as part of an in and out of hours rota.


If you have relevant experience of working within a regulatory/enforcement capacity, or within a relevant regulated industry and want to play a key role in protecting and improving the environment of Wales, then we want to hear from you.


Knowledge and experience of the following:
Knowledge and experience of either working in a regulated industry or as a regulator.

Good understanding of commercial business processes and pressures.

Ability to communicate effectively with regulated business and the public, explaining issues and gaining support by influencing.
