Project Engineer - Hydraulics Systems
Work type Full Time - Permanent
Location Gaydon, Warwickshire


Job Purpose:


To be the technical expert on all hydraulics topics, support the hydraulics team with industry best practice and extensive knowledge and experience of hydraulic systems, from Concept design, DFMEA's, System specification, Development and Testing and Functionalsign off.

Contribute to in house training content for other areas of the business.


Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Defining and establishing training content and sign off criteria for technicians working with or near to vehicle hydraulic systems.
  • Support other members of the hydraulics team through specifications and knowledge of system fundamentals and industry best practice in creation of CAD models and 2D drawings of hydraulic hardware.
  • Define initial fill, blead and commissioning procedures and work to train and roll out any work instructions
  • Liaise with interfacing system owners and package teams ensuring compatibility.
  • Work closely with component suppliers ensuring cost, mass and functional optimisation.
  • Support procurement team during supplier nomination process.
  • Troubleshooting and concern resolution during prototype build, testing and production phases.
  • Work closely with development team to ensure functional performance and durability is meeting expectations.
  • Work closely with simulation team to ensure good model correlation.
  • Support any less experienced team members with knowledge and guidance on hydraulics topics.
  • Support the vehicle manufacturing team with training and guidance on the working with hydraulic systems and if required with at elbow direction.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Significant experience in the design and development of hydraulic components off highway, motorsport or aviation
  • Experience of sizing of hydraulic components.
  • Simulation techniques used in the definition and validation of hydraulic systems
  • Test methods used in the validation of hydraulic systems
  • Ability to analyse and validate supplier data to identify issues
  • Working across functional teams (design, development, procurement, build and test) to deliver viable design solutions
  • Volume manufacturing processes casting, machining, fabrication, forming, injection molding, fiber reinforced composites
  • Creation of system DFMEAs
  • Driving optimisation through analysis
  • Appreciation of test instrumentation and data analysis
  • Knowledge of the behavior of materials at high temperatures, component thermal protection, component temperature limits
  • Working within an OEM environment
  • Supporting test teams with problem solving/concern resolution
  • Tracking and planning of engineering, tooling and piece costs
  • Support of production sourcing activities

  • Invehicle conditions and requirements
  • Established relationships with or good knowledge of the motorsport and production car hydraulics supply base
  • Engineering process and a working knowledge of industry standard tool sets.
  • Industry standard hydraulics testing and validation processes
  • Developing design standards
  • Developing and documenting benchmark data
  • Applicable legislation and certification requirements
  • BOM definition and maintenance
