Description
Acorn by Synergie is working with a very distinguished world market leader in the reclamation of material from the Aluminium Smelting industry to engage with a Mechanical Design Engineer.
Key role areas:
- Accurately develop associative solid models of all products utilising SolidWorks software
- Within EPDM software and archive documentation pertaining to the projects
- Create new and/or revises existing designs, drawings, and bills of material (BOM) for our products
- Responds to and resolves discrepancy reports from the shop floor
- Create Engineering Change Requests detailing the necessary changes to released designs
- Control of Bill of Materials (BoM), CAD Models and Engineering Drawings
- Updates drawings/models/BOMs as needed, and routes change requests through the approval process
Responsibilities and duties:
- Carry out detailed mechanical design work including 3D modelling, simulation (eg. thermal & stress) and design verification testing, as required
- Agreeing the mechanical design approach with the Engineering Manager and Senior Mechanical Design Engineers
- Responsible for the specification compliance of designs
- Responsible for mechanical part selection taking into consideration obsolescence, availability and cost
- Responsible for preparing and presenting mechanical designs at design reviews
- Exercises latitude and technical judgement in deciding work methods
- Ability to train the work group and lead teams within the work group
- Ability to manage group to achieve goals within budget
- Good understanding of customer expectations and deliverables with an awareness of the impact of failure/cost of poor quality
- Responsible for reporting progress of all assigned tasks to the Engineering Manager and Project Management teams
The person:
- Degree or HND/ HNC Mechanical Engineering with equivalent experience
- Experience in a similar role ideally within Induction Heating, bespoke machinery or similar industry
Technical skills:
- Ability to use CAD/SolidWorks
- Knowledge of EPDM Software (desirable)
- Ability to design processes and layouts
- Experience of FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis)
- Ability to coordinate with the other discipline Engineers (electrical) within the department to produce multidisciplinary design solutions
