About the Role

Base Location:
Glasgow / Perth / Edinburgh / Dublin / Reading / Leeds / other locations will be considered. We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception.

We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK and Ireland.


Salary:
£72,500 - £108,700 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing, and family.

SSE Thermal are responsible for the delivery of long-term sustainable and strong earnings through efficient operation of a flexible generation fleet complementing Renewables in the transition to a low-carbon economy.


Working with the Director of Development, the Head of Consents and Land will lead the provision of both consenting and land managers and services to the SSE Thermal Development, Business Development, Construction and Operations Teams as SSE's Thermal enters into a new growth phase.

Key Accountabilities

  • Design and implement consenting strategies to deliver project consents and permits applicable across a range of low carbon projects in the portfolio comprising new build and retrofit low carbon thermal power generation (CCS & H2), H2 Production, and Storage across FOAK technology infrastructure.
  • Joint Venture Consenting Governance
  • Design and implement consenting evaluation procedure to ensure robust process is being followed for any JV projects where our partner is leading activity.
  • Identify and manage consenting and permitting risks including timeous escalation.
  • Design and implement land strategies to deliver for the requirements of Project Development, Business Development and Operations across a range of projects a varying level of maturinty including the baselining of exisitng sites.
  • Management of strategic land adquisitions, sales and enduring landbank governance across the low carbon projects' portfolio comprising new build and retrofit low carbon thermal power generation, H2 Production, and Storage across FOAK technology infrastructure.
  • Lead a team to advise on all aspects of consenting and landrelated activities in the exisiting Development projects & Business Development projects under consideration, including conulting partner selection, appointments, and management,identifying suitable land parcels, securing land options for low carbon development at appropriate terms with land owners, the management of DCO related land matters and site cleansing, land related agreements with Statutory undertakings including CO2 transport and infrastrucutre, National Grid, Canal & River Trust, and Local Authorities.

What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Significant relevant experience post honours Degree.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience of environmental and planning requirements for major capital projects (including Environmental Permitting Regime, Development Consent Order, Section 36, Water Abstraction Licensing). and industrial property (power generation / utilities experience a distinct advantage) with knowledge of the key aspects of property diligence, title, services, contamination, burdens, required for infrastructure investment and divestment.
  • Experience of working with senior government officials and elected representatives.
  • Experience of leading and motivating a team, setting clear goals and objectives, and measuring performance against them.
