Whether designing processes to support our global business, analysing performance, providing forward-thinking analysis or delivering a business case for a new revenue stream, The Economist finance team creates innovative solutions to the Economist Group's key strategic income stream and supports its ambitious growth plans.
Business partnering is key in this role.You will be responsible for partnering with the business teams responsible for producing and distributing The Economist newspaper across the globe.
Key to success is creating and implementing a new driver-based forecast process to ensure our forecasting is nimble and accurate, allowing us to make better decisions more quickly.
In this role you will report to the Head of Finance.You will be comfortable working at pace across different business structures, managing multiple priorities and dealing with stakeholders across the business.
Accountabilities:
How you will contribute:
- Managing our largest cost lines production and distribution of The Economist newspaper, as well as our customer contact centre costs
- Partnering with the production and distribution team as well as the customer operations team to produce monthly variance analysis explaining performance trends to senior management
- Work with the business in creating a driverbased forecast process to accurately model production and distribution costs
- Over time, move the forecast process completely into our cloudbased reporting and planning tool
- Anaplan
- Be commercially focused, identifying opportunities for saving costs and creating efficiencies
Experience, skills and professional attributes:
The ideal skills for this role are:
- A university qualification and an accountancy qualification (CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent)
- Highly analytical, with close attention to detail
- Strong organisational skills able to coordinate multiple inputs to deliver against tight deadlines
- Proven experience in globalizing and improving processes
- Ability to present information with clarity for a nonfinancial audience
- Engagement and commitment, showing ownership of responsibilities
- A growth mindset, working to improve every day
Additional experience and skills advantageous:
- Experience working in a global business with multiple products, currencies and geographic locations
- Experience of Anaplan would be beneficial but not essential
- Flexibility, able to adapt to changing priorities and structures
- Ability to collaborate with and influence colleagues to improve decision making
- Selfmotivated to look for new ideas to streamline and simplify process
- A track record as a good team player, committed to the success of the team as a whole
