Are you committed to the ethos of public libraries and supporting the library service to provide the maximum benefit to the public?

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Bristol Libraries Service as the Library Staffing Coordinator. Bristol Libraries is a dynamic service with opening hours across all seven days of the week.

The library service runs 27 libraries across Bristol, and you will be responsible for organising staffing rotas for libraries and liaising with managers to ensure that cover is available.

You will be a highly organised person with good communication skills and excellent attention to detail.


Your key duties are:

  • Ensuring that timetables and workbooks for all library teams are produced to a very high standard of accuracy.
  • Receiving sickness notifications and dealing with the staffing implications.
  • Resolving any issues relating to staffing shortfalls, particularly on an urgent basis.
  • Liaising with managers and supervisors across the service to maintain annual leave diaries, agree dates of annual leave requests, and ensure that uptodate staffing information is available and communicated appropriately.
  • Overseeing the pool of casual library assistants, ensuring they receive all necessary communications and training, as well as recruiting new casual staff as and when required.
This post is permanent and full time (37 hours per week) and is based at Bristol Central Library.

This post is not suitable for job share and availability for two Saturday sessions per month is required.

A typical timetable for this post would be:

Week 1: 8:30am-5pm Monday to Thursday, 8:30am-4:30pm Saturday


Week 2: 8:30am-5pm Monday to Thursday, 8:30am-4:30pm Friday
