We have created an opportunity within our Department of Clinical Sciences for an experienced health economist to provide support to a portfolio of projects involving economic evaluations of global health interventions and strategies.


The postholder will develop, deliver and co-ordinate a portfolio of economic evaluations as stand-alone projects or integrated within wider research projects.

As Health Economist, you will devise economic evaluation methods, collect data, conduct analyses, and deliver high quality, cutting edge economic evaluations that are relevant to sub-national, national and global decision making.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Developing tools (e.g. casereport forms, interview tools, costing spreadsheets and data extraction forms) and standard operating procedures to support collection of robust and highquality cost data directly and via partners
  • Coordinating and monitoring economics data collection, ensuring that procedures are adhered to and data is of the highest quality
  • Contribute to delivering and expanding health economics teaching at LSTM by delivering lectures, supervising student projects and developing learning and teaching materials
  • Liaising with statisticians/epidemiologists and conducting analyses of data both for internal reports and meetings and for writing up for publications
  • Supporting the dissemination of findings, in particular writing research articles and supporting collaborators to publish papers
  • Post graduate qualification in health economics (a PhD in health economics would be advantageous)
  • Knowledge of health and disease issues pertinent to lowresource settings
  • Experience in conducting health economic evaluations, including modelling, with a focus on low resource settings
  • Fluency in English, French and/or Portuguese (or another language that is widely spoken in Africa e.g. ki Swahili)
