What does a Research Assistant do at Collinson do?

We are embarking on a desk research project of approximately two months for the purpose of identifying top companies in Europe and the UK.

The project will involve identifying companies, researching into their strategies, current market performance and what their growth plans are.

The aim of this project is to arrive at a list of well-researched companies that meet all our criteria for being a 'top' prospect.

Research will be done via acquired lists and databases, Google research in the UK and European markets, industry reports where available, and any other information source that we can gain access to, in order to answer the questions we have for each company.

Key responsibilities

  • Work off an acquired list of companies that meet our top criteria for being considered as a prospect.
  • Using set criteria, identify which companies from the list should be eliminated.
  • Carry out desk research for the selected companies based on preagreed criteria. You'd answer approximately 10 questions per company. Some questions are basic fact finding while others need a level of assessment about their performance as a business or quality of their loyalty program. No loyalty experience is needed for this, however, ability to understand business success and failure, opportunities and threats is needed when assessing if a business would make a good prospect. Each company will take around 12 hours to research depending on how readily available the information is.
  • Collecting the findings into an Excel sheet that is prepared with set formatting.

Key skills

  • Computer literacy
  • Word, Excel, PPT.
  • Ability to perform searches on Google. Familiarity with any other information sources/platforms is a bonus.
  • Selfmotivation

  • Ability to express thoughts in written and verbal format about the findings.
  • Ability to manage own time to meet deadlines.
  • Judgement be able to look at a loyalty program and make an assessment as to if it looks good or not from own experience and logical thinking. Support from the team will be available.
  • Assessment skills be able to read up on a company, answer the questions posed, and make an assessment on what it means for us as an agency with support from the team.
  • Be coachable these roles are working closely as a team and ensuring the research is done to meet our output requirements. We will offer feedback and suggestions where needed to improve the process and to support these resources throughout the project.
  • Business and marketing degree is a bonus
  • University scores
  • First-Class Honours (First or 1st) (70% and above)
  • Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1, 2. i %)
