Our client, Peter Bedford Housing Association (PBHA), is a housing association with charitable aims that create positive change in people's lives.

As well as homes and support, they empower people to learn, access work and discover their creative talents.

Based mainly in Hackney, Newham and Islington, they work with people who are homeless, have mental ill health, learning difficulties and multiple needs.

PBHA's work enables people to move on and lead independent lives.


The Participation and Volunteer Development Worker will support people to participate in aspects of PBHA's service delivery, involve them in decision making, consultations and research.

You will help PBHA progress to be a tenant-led organisation.


Key duties and responsibilities:


  • Plan and develop coproduction, participation and peer support opportunities for tenants
  • Recruit new volunteers and peer mentors
  • Induct and train new volunteers and peer mentors
  • Support and supervise volunteers and peer mentors
  • Conduct risk assessments, considering safeguarding
  • Asist with producing leaflets, written material, publicity and marketing in conjunction with volunteers
  • Coordinate the publication of a magazine, giving tenants confidence to contribute
  • Network with other organisations who promote coproduction.

Person specification:


  • To have worked in a paid or voluntary capacity with at least one of the following groups: people who have mental ill health, learning difficulties, people who have been homeless, or people who have had substance misuse issues
  • Understanding of coproduction, peer support and the value of lived experience
  • Supervisory experience, able to lead a team
  • Experience recruiting team members
  • Collaborative and positive work ethic, with good negotiation skills
  • Outcome focused, able to prioritise and plan with great time management
  • Good communication skills
  • Good IT skills, including using Microsoft Office.
