We have a proven track record in supplying a diverse customer base including Restaurant Groups, Airlines, Cruise Ships, High Street & Catering Butchers, UK Multiples and Online Businesses.

We are expanding our team and are looking for a NPD Technologist to join our Commercial team.

As NPD Technologist you will assist with the implementation, supervision and maintenance of the product development systems and documentation, ensuring compliance with the company quality and food safety system.

You will take ownership and delivery of your allocated NPD projects from concept to launch, with adherence to all stages of the NPD process, delivering cost effective products that meet customer expectations.

You will be an absolute foodie and be able to demonstrate food trends.

You will also be able to role your sleeves up with this hands-on role and have creative flair, with an analytical mind.

To provide a site-based resource within the development team and lead NPD projects.

With the support of their line manager, ensure that products meet both the customer and DB Foods expectations, whilst satisfying all relevant technical criteria, thus delivering a timely and faultless successful launch, supported by the relevant site functions.

While responsibilities are site based there may be the requirement for travel between sites and to customers. Main customers responsible for are top 4 retailers, food service and wholesale.

Key Responsibilities:

Development lead for top 4 retailers, food service and wholesale.
Orders raw material to make samples, leading customer presentations, site visits and supports the wider site team.

Quality

  • Briefs out suppliers for new raw materials and packaging for a customer brief, ensuring they are suitable for the products
  • Manage the Specification system, ensuring all supplier specifications are up to date and complete
  • Understands the relationship between the supplier and customer (buyer, developer and technologist)
  • Build strong relationships with the supply base technical team
  • Understands what a 'good job' looks like for internal panels
  • May support or lead external panels through product preparation and cooking
  • Understands what a 'good job' looks like for samples and ensures they are signed off before dispatch to meet the site procedure and highquality standards
  • Understands what records need to be kept and how to complete them
  • Experience in the stage and gate launch process
Innovation

  • Prepares samples for presentations, either from the kitchen or factory to an acceptable standard and agreed timescale
  • Understands what a critical path is and why we need them
  • Understands the dynamics between NPD and category
  • Understands that we need operational agreement before presenting paper ideas or innovation samples to customers
  • Aware of technical constraints and allergens permitted in each area of the factory
  • Maintains cleanliness of development kitchen with the support of the team
  • Visitor lunch shopping and preparation
  • Put in place a quality review and benchmarking process throughout the year
Value

  • Understands what cost information needs to be recorded and why can accurately write and record recipes on the system
  • Understands what information needs to be gathered from sample making to generate or update a recipe
  • Understands the products made at site with an understanding of how they are made
  • Is familiar with machinery and processes within the factory
  • Basic understanding of meat breakdown and has a basic awareness of different cuts would be ideal
  • Support training of members of the Intake/QA team
People

  • Aware of internal stakeholders across the customer base (e.g., who the account manager is for each customer)
  • With support of their line manager, delivers given workload within the confines of a daily plan and raises concerns if workload is unmanageable within the day
  • Can prioritise tasks throughout the day
  • Attends 121 with line manager, attends a performancebased review with feedback
  • Has objectives set by their line manager and works towards them to an agreed deadline

Skills and Experience:


  • Awareness of food quality standards, CCPs, allergens and hygiene standards
  • Ability to work from recipe sheets to produce kitchen and factory samples
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Comfortable to work in factory,
